On Inspiration

Update: Since the last post I got a gig with an online retailer, and I'm helping them completely rebrand their social media and promotional videos. So that's cool! But on to the main reason for this post.

This last week I've felt the most creative I have in a very long time. And I feel it's a direct result of ridding my life of some serious negativity and stress. It's amazing how freely your subconscious and creativity flows when you just allow it to. In other words, your creativity is begging to let loose, you simply need to give it a hand. If you're suffering from any sort of lack of inspiration, I urge you to take a look at your life and distinguish what is not serving your purpose or harnessing negative and unproductive energy. THEN GET RID OF IT. Negative energy repels those juicy, benevolent, creative vibes. So get rid of it, and watch how you're overflowed with ideas.

Another thing that's helped is watching, researching, geeking out on people who are doing the same thing you are or aspire to. I have been wanting to shoot on film again for years. I had no idea where to start and it felt completely daunting to start from scratch. But like I said, I closed the door on that negative energy, and the inspiration and motivation was overwhelming. An old classmate of mine was selling a Canon AE-1, I bought it off him, and have been taking pictures of everything and anything. I cannot wait to see the results and have been completely obsessed with figuring out how to develop my own film at home. I've spent hours researching, watching YouTube videos, etc., and I get so amped on seeing other people's work and techniques. All in all, I know this creative process, although very different from digital videography, will inform that as well, and my photography style and editing will cross over into that realm.

And an unexpected twist on getting rid of the cacophonous bullshit in your life: people with positive vibes and who are beneficial to your journey will come out of the woodwork. I can't tell you how many people I've reconnected with in the last week out of the blue. People I haven't talked to in years. People who are on the same wavelength as you, much like creativity, are sort of begging to interact with you. You just have to let them.

Anyway, my experience this past week has been insane and I thought I'd share it. Try it out if you're experiencing a lack of inspiration, motivation, or creativity.

Until next time,

Sary
